February 07 Potluck
 

On 02/17/07, the YSU potluck was held at a reserved, private room in Marysville.  The casual evening include a fun ice breaker game in which attendees got to guess who the other guests were based on a questionnaire.
Thanks to Tyson, Jacob, and Dray for beautifully decorating.  And thanks to al the YSU Board members along with Dray, JC and Nate for helping to clean up.  See ya next time!

 

January 07 "Helpers and Heroes" Annual Award Dinner (and Annoucement of Group's Name Change)
On 20 January we held this year's "Helpers and Heroes" dinner to recognize all the wonderful people and businesses that supported Yuba-Sutter Pride in 2006.  Certificates were awarded to show appreciation for all the support.  Also, Jeffrey Girard (YSP Director) announced the renaming of Yuba-Sutter Pride to Yuba-Sutter Unity.  The name change reflects the group's renewed focus on bringing together the Yuba-Sutter community.  Here are a few pictures from the event:

January 07 Terri and Tina Potluck in Oroville
On 13 January we visited Teri & Tina's house in Oroville.  As usual, several new people attended.  Potlucks are a very "low threat" environment.  People visit to meet new friends, visit with old friends, and enjoy the great food. Here are a few pictures from the Jan 07 potluck:

December 06 Amicus Bookstore in Marysville
Amicus Bookstore in Marysville hosted a fun evening in December.  YSP held an event in conjunction with Amicus to allow YSP family to look at what Amicus has to offer.  Here are a few pictures from the event:

Veteran's Day Parade in Marysville
Yuba-Sutter has a rich military heritage as home to Beale AFB.  Several dedicated YSP volunteers attended the Veteran's Day parade to both show support for our troops and to hand out informational brochures on ending the military's legal discrimination under the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.  Here are a few pictures from the event:

October 06 Make A Difference Day
YSP is committed to making a positive difference in our community.  On 28 October several YSP'ers helped out with the Make a Difference Day Event.  Here are a few pictures from the event:

October 06 Halloween Costume Party Potluck
This costume themed potluck was a blast!  Everyone had a good laugh seeing the variety of costumes.  The food and drinks were great, too.  Here are a few pictures from the event:

October 06 Cultural Celebration in Yuba City
On 14 October, Yuba-Sutter Pride once again had a presence at the Yuba City Cultural Fair.  This very well attended event gave us the chance to show the community what an opportunity they have to celebrate the beautiful diversity in this area.  Here is one of our favorite pictures from the event:

September 06 Planet Rock Support Event
Several members of our family went out into the Yuba-Sutter community to rally support for keeping Planet Rock open in Marysville.  Planet Rock was a great supported of YSP.  Here are a couple pictures from the event:

September 06 Rainbow Festival Outing to Sacramento
We arranged a trip to the Sacramento Rainbow Festival.  Everyone had a great time.  It's amazing how many new people you can meet if you just reach out.  Here are a few pictures of the event:

 

August 06 Sizzlin' Summer Cookout
On Saturday 08/12/06, Y-S Pride friends and family gathered in Yuba City to eat, drink, and be merry.  Adults and kids attended.  Several folks jumped into the pool to get a break from the sizzling heat.  We also took the opportunity to celebrate Yuba Sutter Pride's 3rd birthday!  Yes, this month marks the 3rd year we've had a group in the area to bring together GLBTI folks and friends of our family.  Here are a few pictures of the event:

 

July 06 70's Costume Party Poolside Potluck
On Saturday 07/15/06,
Y-S Pride held a 70’s themed potluck at Ginger’s home in Yuba City.  It was our biggest turnout of the year!  The potluck began with amusing ice breaker games; people got to know one another by sharing answers to various questions; The food was plentiful and amazingly delicious; the people were also plentiful and diverse from all ages and walks of life; some people sat and chatted; some people swam; others listened and danced to music; and some took part in a disco photo shoot. 

YSP June 06 Fabulous Poolside Potluck
On Saturday 06/17/06, the monthly YSP potluck was held at the home of Trudy and Sonia in Yuba City. Sonia graciously tended the grill and made some delicious scrimp kabobs. And there was an abundance of food brought in by our attendees. Fun ice breaker games kicked off things and enabled people to get to know each other. The rest of the evening included: football tossing; water fights; limbo; dancing to great music; body painting; and all kinds of shenanigans. It was one of the best potlucks to date.
 

YSP Pizza Social (June 06)

On Saturday 06/10/06, YSP organized a pizza dinner at Primetime Pizza in Marysville.  There were plenty of new faces and plenty of good food.

    

Y-S Men’s Evening Social (May 06)
On 05/26/06, a Men’s Dinner was held at Round Table Pizza in Yuba City. A Woman’s Lunch was also held on 5/20 in Marysville.

EQCA Y-S “Will & Grace” Farewell Social
On 05/18/06, a farewell “Will & Grace” viewing EQCA Y-S fundraising party was held at Primetime Pizza. 72 hours before the event, the location was switched from Planet rock due to TV problems. Nor-Cal AIDS Challenge Rides Through Y-S
On 05/18/06, The 4-day Nor-Cal AIDS Challenge 325-mile cycling ride made its way through Y-S. Their route passed through the back roads of historic towns including Gridley, Marysville, Oroville, Hamilton, Colusa, Chico and concluded at the State Capitol. YSP Director Girard stopped by to greet the riders at rest stop #2 at Fairview Community Christian Church in Nicolas. At rest stop #3 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marysville, YSP First Mister Tyler Angelo stopped by to lend a hand. The 40 riders in this year’s event earned over $70,000 for AIDS research. Y-S Supportive Pastors Mingle at Potluck
On 05/13/06, YSP’s monthly potluck was held at the home of Pastor Helen, husband Tim and son Keith. Y-S Pastors Danny and Christine also attended and, along with Helen, spoke to the potluck attendees about their acceptance of the LGBT community. EQCA Y-S Chapter Leader Lobbies at State Capitol
On 05/08/06, EQCA Y-S Chapter Leader Jeffrey Girard joined a team of advocates for Equality California’s annual lobby day at the State Capitol. The team visited several Northern California representatives to urge them to vote in support of various LGBT equal rights bills. Y-S area representatives Senator Aanestad and Assemblymen Keene and LaMalfa were unavailable, so the team met with their staff members. Girard told the staff members that the representatives should meet the LGBT community at our events in a personable way - since they are voting on our freedom and equality. None of the representatives have accepted that offer yet. But we will keep holding them accountable. (photos courtesy of YSP)

YSP Director Demonstrates for Awareness
On 04/28/06, YSP Director Jeffrey Girard and an anonymous volunteer demonstrated to raise awareness for the end of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” at the premier of “Flight 93” at Movies 8 in Yuba City. They passed out flyers that opined how openly-gay Flight 93 hero is an example of why gays should be allowed to serve openly in the military. (photos courtesy of YSP)

Y-S Pride Director Speaks at Yuba College Class
On Monday and Tuesday 03/27-28/06, YSP Director Jeffrey Girard and supportive Presbyterian Pastor Helen Jackson (of Yuba City) spoke to a human sexuality class taught by Professor Lisa-Jenson Martin. Girard spoke about growing up gay in Y-S, getting married to a woman, getting involved with an un-accepting church, coming to terms with his sexuality, starting YSP, and becoming an equality activist. Jackson spoke about how and why she accepts homosexuality and why she is compelled to support the LGBTI community. (photos courtesy of YSP)

Y-S Pride Director & Y-S Pastor Urge Acceptance in YC
On Friday 03/03/06 YSP Director Jeffrey Girard and Yuba City Presbyterian Pastor Helen Jackson attended a Yuba City Church of Nazarene presentation by Brad Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ. Girard urged the church to invite pro-gay speakers, states that it is wrong to impose their religious beliefs about marriage on gays by voting on our equality, and challenges some of Bright’s ideas. Jackson shared why she as a Christian is compelled to accept and support the LGBTI community.
